Best Friends in Action
Randolph-Asheboro YMCA
What are "Friends" for?
The Best Friends of Randolph County program introduces
youth who need encouragement and direction from
understanding and caring adults.
Who are "Friends"?
Adults, 17 years of age and older, who want to have a direct
and significant impact on a young person in need of a
positive role model.
Being a "Friend" lets you:
1. Provide friendship and guidance to a youth in your
community.
2. See your community grow by helping one youth.
3. Grow as an individual through the sharing of yourself with
others.
4. Participate in training events and special activities for the
youth and adults in the program.
Who's your "Friend"?
Young people between the ages of 6 and 17 who are in need
of a special friend to share experiences with, and who need
help and guidance in dealing with the problems of growing
up in today's complex society. Both boys and girls of
various ethnic backgrounds participate in the program.
These young people are referred to the program by the court
system, schools and community agencies. The type of
activities and the time you share with your Best Friend are
up to you. Most youngsters enjoy recreational activities,
sporting events, taking day trips, or going to the movies.
The YMCA facilities are also available and volunteers are
encouraged to utilize and become involved in the wide
variety of programs and opportunities the YMCA offers.
Volunteers must be willing to spend a minimum of twelve
hours per month with their Best Friend. For more
information, contact the YMCA.
